I had to bring my car in for an estimate today, and found this sitting in the next bay over:

‘48 Chevrolet Woodie. I asked if I could take some photos and the owner of the shop was happy to oblige. It’s a customer car getting some work done, so I agreed to obscure the plate.

One bay over was the skeleton of a ‘64 Austin Healey 3000 in the process of a full restoration.

And in the back booth, a 29 Packard being reassembled. The straight eight is a thing of beauty and a joy to behold.

I told him that when I returned, I would bring a better camera.

I have often thought about getting an old but cheap car and doing the wood body work myself. I often work in a union shop where we have every tool, even a CNC machine. If I can build a dragon for Capcom I can do the car body.

The block is actually part of the frame up front. I’ll try to take a better photo when I go back, this one’s a little shaky...I didn’t want to make him regret he let me start shooting pix.

The whole silver piece is the crankcase, it’s one piece, even though the horn blocks the view, and it extends out to the frame rails on both sides, making it an integral part of the structure. You could eat off this thing if it wouldn’t get you killed by the owner...
